The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has introduced interoperability in its digital wallet payment system to facilitate women beneficiaries. Women can now withdraw their funds from any authorized retailer belonging to six partner banks in any city throughout Pakistan.
Withdrawals are available at any time and on any day. The digital wallet payment system was launched following directives from President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
HBL, Habib Microfinance, Bank Alfalah, Telenor Microfinance, Bank of Punjab, and Mobilink/Jazz Bank comprise the six partner institutions. Beneficiaries are required to collect free Benazir SIMs specifically from BISP offices.
To obtain these SIMs, individuals must present their original personal mobile phones and original Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs). A representative from the relevant mobile network operator performs the activation at the BISP office or a designated site.
Withdrawing funds requires mandatory biometric verification and the presentation of an original CNIC. Senator Rubina Khalid, Chairperson, addressed the concerns of 28 callers during a live E-Kachehri session held at the BISP Headquarters.
The programme stipulates that a repeat survey cannot be conducted until two years have passed since the previous survey.
