Brazil economic activity rises 0.3 percent in August
Brazil's economic activity increased by a seasonally adjusted 0.3 percent in August compared to the previous month. This growth figure met the median forecast produced by a Reuters poll of economists.
Industry output expanded by 0.9 percent from July. On an unadjusted basis, the IBC-Br index rose 1.2 percent from the previous year.
The IBC-Br index also climbed 1.6 percent on a rolling 12-month basis through August. Brazil’s central bank stated that slower economic activity is necessary for inflation to reach its 3 percent target.
The central bank projects gross domestic product growth of 1.8 percent for this year and 1.4 percent in 2027. Policymakers are scheduled to convene in early November to make the next monetary policy decision.
The benchmark Selic rate currently stands at 13.75 percent after the central bank delivered five consecutive 25-basis-point interest rate cuts.
