Chaudhry Shafay Hussain inaugurated Pakistan’s largest four-day exhibition of garments, textile machinery and accessories on 15 October. More than 550 companies from 30 countries are showcasing products at the event, which runs until 18 October.
Saleem Khan Tanoli, CEO of Fact Exhibitions (Pvt.) Limited, accompanied the minister as he visited various stalls and expressed interest in the displayed items. Hussain stated that the textile sector remains a key pillar of the national economy and an important source of employment.
A state-of-the-art Garment City has been established at Quaid-e-Azam Business Park in Sheikhupura, according to the minister. Work is underway on cotton seed development in collaboration with China to enhance production levels.
Investment agreements have been signed with several Chinese companies for projects in Punjab, with the implementation of six agreements already begun. Several electric two-wheeler manufacturing plants have been established in Punjab, while more facilities are being set up alongside factories for lithium battery manufacturing.
The minister noted that hydropower projects with a capacity of 20 megawatts each could be installed on Punjab’s canals. Small hydropower projects along the canals are also being planned by the Punjab government.
Hussain claimed that a deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa necessitated the imposition of emergency. The incumbent Punjab government has completed a record number of development projects with transparency over the past 2.5 years, he added.
