Nolla Health announced that users in Utah can now use artificial intelligence to obtain a prescription for acne treatment. The service is currently operating as a pilot program within the state of Utah. Initially, two physicians will approve every prescription generated by the AI for the first one hundred patients. Following this initial phase, physicians will begin reviewing prescriptions after the system has been used by up to 500 patients.
After the 500-patient mark, Health claims that physicians will review a minimum of 10% of prescriptions monthly, alongside every case involving a side effect or escalation. Furthermore, Health asserts that its service represents the first in the country to issue initial prescriptions, rather than merely renewing existing ones. Residents aged 18 or older in Utah can access the program for a monthly fee of $4.99, provided they suffer from mild-to-moderate acne. Should the AI system fail to 'confidently select a treatment', it will direct the user to consult a physician. According to Bloomberg, the AI system possesses the capability to prescribe eight different skin treatments.
