President Asif Ali Zardari commended healthcare professionals, volunteers, patient organisations, researchers and community workers on Breast Cancer Awareness Day. Zardari stated that breast cancer impacts thousands of families in Pakistan, creating emotional and social pressures on mothers, daughters, sisters and spouses.
The president noted that the consequences of the disease extend beyond the individual, making timely medical attention and greater awareness essential. Doctors play a vital role in strengthening public understanding and supporting women and their families, according to Zardari.
Zardari said greater awareness helps women make informed decisions and encourages them to engage with healthcare professionals without fear or hesitation. Families and communities have an important role to play in reducing the fear, misinformation and silence that often surround cancer.
The president called for continued promotion of healthy lifestyles and a better understanding of factors that influence cancer risk. Compassion and support must be extended to women living with breast cancer and those who have completed treatment, ensuring they receive the emotional, social and family support they need throughout their journey.
Zardari remarked that the strength shown by those facing the challenges of the disease deserves respect and understanding.
