Donald Trump called Norway a "shit house country" during a political rally in Port Huron, Michigan. The former US President stated he would not want anybody from Norway to enter the United States.
Trump attributed the exclusion of Norwegian immigrants to the fact that he did not receive a Nobel Peace Prize. He described the failure to grant him the award as an "indelible stain" on Norway.
The Trump administration is not adopting any new official policy regarding Norwegian immigrants. Espen Barth Eide stated the ministry reminded the Nobel Committee of its independence.
Eide also noted that the Nobel Committee remains independent. France's recent unrest was attributed by Trump to immigration issues.
Norway remains one of the highest-income countries based on GDP per capita. The sovereign wealth fund of Norway posted a profit of 1.75 trillion Norwegian crowns for the first half of 2026.
This profit equates to 184.3 billion USD for the same period.
