The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has pushed back the deadline for submitting income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 to 31 October 2026. This adjustment provides a 15-day window for taxpayers who were originally required to complete their filings by 30 September 2026.

The authority granted the extension under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001. Previously, Circular No. 3 of 2026-27 issued on 30 September 2026 had already moved the submission date to 15 October.

An FBR notification stated, "This extension is being granted in view of the requests received from various trade bodies and tax bar associations." The draft return form for Tax Year 2026 was first shared via SRO 835(I)/2026 on 7 May 2026, while the final version was notified through SRO 1495(I)/2026 on 2 September 2026.

Sheikh Umer Rehan, president of Karachi’s Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI), requested the government and FBR to grant a further one-month extension. Nadeem Ahmed Siddiqui, Muhammad Fahad Mian, and Irfan Arbiani of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders and Small Industry (HCSTSI) also petitioned Finance Minister Aurangzeb and the FBR chairman for more time.

Taxpayers reported struggling with technical problems on the IRIS portal, wealth statement reconciliations, and new disclosure mandates in the updated forms.
