Houthi rebels launched 20 attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh this month, killing 17 people and wounding 333 others. The militia has fired ballistic missiles and drones at key Saudi sites for one week, including attempts to strike dozens of ports, oil facilities, and airports.

Three people died and 28 were injured during Houthi strikes on Abha airport. Saudi Arabia reached out to the Houthis in Yemen in recent weeks as fighting intensified, but the rebels refused a meeting in Muscat, Oman.

Iran encourages the Houthis in their conflict with Saudi Arabia. Dr Rayed Krimly, deputy minister for public diplomacy at the foreign ministry, stated that "Iran continues to arm, train and support the Houthi militia in violation of UN Security Council resolutions."

A Saudi-led military intervention began in Yemen in 2015 after the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, in 2014. A UN-brokered truce started on 1 January 2022, followed by a de facto truce that lasted for six months after the official agreement expired.

The coalition destroyed 127 weapons storage facilities and launch platforms in the mountainous regions of Yemen.

"Iran continues to arm, train and support the Houthi militia in violation of UN Security Council resolutions," said Dr Rayed Krimly, deputy minister for public diplomacy at the foreign ministry.
