Pakistan's RDA inflows reach US$14.157 billion by September 2026

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) extended the term of the Sindh High Court’s constitutional benches for one year during a meeting on 13 October. Commission members renominated every existing judge of the benches following a majority vote of 14 to 1.

Mohammad Ishaq Dar urged all political parties to collaborate in the fight against terrorism during a Senate session on 13 October. Dar stated that both federal and provincial governments share the duty of ensuring stability and security across the country.

The Constitution provides a specific mechanism for obtaining parliamentary approval on emergency measures. More than 3,000 terrorist attacks occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the tenure of Sohail Afridi.

Deputy Commissioner Munir Ahmed Durrani prohibited private schools in Quetta West from charging fees during holidays. This directive follows a recent ruling by the Balochistan High Court regarding educational costs.

A federal judge blocked President Donald Trump from enforcing a White House ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico in the United States. The court ordered the White House to reinstate access for these news organisations on 24 September.

Trump issued the ban last month, which resulted in the revocation of press credentials for employees of the three outlets on or about 18 September. The ban violated the First Amendment of the US Constitution.

Judge Kelly ordered the administration to "immediately return, reinstate, and restore the White House ‘hard pass’ press credentials held by employees of CNN, MS NOW, and POLITICO that were revoked on or about September 18, 2026, until further Order of the Court or the expiration of this Temporary Restraining Order."

Rainfall disrupted electricity supply to 67 feeders in the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) region. The affected areas included Peshawar, Khyber, Mardan and Swat.

Peshawar saw a temporary suspension of power to 31 feeders, while 22 feeders in Khyber were impacted. In Mardan and Swat, the rain caused power outages for 11 and three feeders respectively.

Electricity supply to all other feeders remained normal during the weather event. Operational teams remained on high alert to deal with rain-related disruptions on the directives of PESCO Chief Akhtar Hameed Khan.

Repair and restoration work had started in areas where the rain had stopped. Consumers were advised to call the PESCO helpline at 118 to register electricity-related complaints.

Feihe (Ningxia) Biotechnology Dairy Co., Ltd. is investigating ways to enter the Pakistani market and establish cooperation across the dairy industry's supply chain. Li Nan, General Manager of Feihe (Ningxia) Biotechnology Dairy Co., Ltd., stated: "We will explore Pakistan’s market and look for opportunities to cooperate across the complete supply chain."

Founded in 1962, Feihe operates three deep-processing bases located in Heilongjiang, Inner Mongolia and Ningxia. These three facilities possess a combined designed capacity to process 3,000 tonnes of fresh milk every day.

The company's Lingwu facility in Ningxia represents an investment of 600 million yuan ($84 million) and is built to process up to 1,000 tonnes of fresh milk daily. Planned products for the company's portfolio include cream, lactose, lactoferrin, casein powder and demineralized whey powder.

No specific timetable, export agreement or investment amount was announced regarding the company's entry into Pakistan.

Defense Minister Khawaja Asif reacted to an AI-generated post on the social media platform X. Asif quote-posted a viral spam puzzle originating from an artificial intelligence bot account.

The AI-generated content featured Marilyn Monroe on a street filled with vintage cars while wearing a modern smartwatch. Social media users mocked the minister for engaging with such AI-generated engagement bait.

Pakistan’s Information Ministry debunked an AI-voiced deepfake video in August 2026 that falsely showed Khawaja Asif praising India.

Huma Khawaja released a new Punjabi song titled Tere Rang in October 2026. The artist began creating the track in January 2026.

Ali Mustafa produced the music from his studio located in Lahore. Vocal production for the song was managed by Samia Gauhar, who previously competed as a top-six contestant on Pakistan Idol.

Roshaan Ashraf contributed to the mixing and percussion of the track. Khawaja used artificial intelligence technology to generate a video for the release.

Two major hospitals in Karachi reported at least 38 rabies cases during this year. More than 26,000 dog-bite incidents were recorded at the same medical facilities over the same period.

The Sindh Rabies Control Programme began operations in 2022 to address these public health concerns. Only Rs66 million of the Rs265 million earmarked for sterilisation and vaccination was released by December last year.

A province-wide campaign was initiated by the Chief Minister in May to combat the spread of the virus. Authorities announced a new strategy last month specifically for managing stray dogs within Karachi.

The government claims to have upgraded 278 anti-rabies units across the Sindh province.

China and North Korea will jointly host an opening ceremony for the new Yalu River Bridge on 15 October 2026. Xinhua reported the scheduled opening of the crossing on 14 October 2026.

Beijing finished its portion of the bridge construction in 2014, while Pyongyang left its customs facilities and approach roads incomplete. Exports from China to North Korea reached a six-year high of $2.3 billion last year, representing a 25 percent increase over the previous year.

United Nations sanctions against North Korea were first imposed in 2017. Pyongyang opened its inaugural road bridge with Russia just weeks before the scheduled opening of the China-North Korea link.

Security forces killed five terrorists and injured four others during an operation in the Palantak area of Washuk district, Balochistan. Personnel used modern weapons to strike militant hideouts, recovering ammunition and advanced weaponry from the deceased insurgents.

A separate offensive against Fitna al-Hindustan in Mastung on 7 October resulted in the deaths of five more militants. Pakistan recorded 225 militant attacks in September, a 13% increase from the 199 incidents reported in August.

This monthly total represents the highest number of militant attacks in 12 years and marks the third consecutive month of rising violence.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) ordered satellite television channels to observe a ban on broadcasting live footage of explosions, shootings, and terrorist incidents. This prohibition order was originally issued by the regulator on 20 February 2023.

Broadcasters must now implement a time-delay mechanism for all transmissions to ensure compliance with the existing rules. PEMRA instructed media houses to air only information that has been verified by law enforcement agencies or relevant government departments.

All channels are required to establish independent editorial boards to oversee content. The authority warned that any violations would lead to legal action under Sections 29A, 30, and 33 of the PEMRA Ordinance.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti ordered officials to speed up a programme providing technical skills to 30,000 young people for overseas work. These instructions were issued during the 11th board meeting of the Balochistan Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (B-TEVTA).

Bugti emphasised that training must correspond to market requirements to ensure graduates secure actual jobs instead of merely obtaining certificates. A strategy was also mandated to link 25,000 individuals finishing their training by next year with domestic and international employment.

Sahibzada Farhan scored 238 runs in a three-match home T20I series against Sri Lanka to break Abhishek Sharma’s record for the most runs in such a bilateral series between two ICC full-member nations. Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique visited the Sahiwal Institute of Cardiology on 14 October to review medical services. Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood and Sahiwal Commissioner Dr. Asif Tufail accompanied the minister during the inspection.

The institute performed more than 276 cardiac surgeries, including 261 bypass operations. Medical staff at the facility conducted 2,660 angiographies and 1,119 angioplasties.

Emergency services were provided to 18,412 patients, while the institute offered outpatient care to 68,976 individuals. Rafique also inspected proposed locations for a cancer treatment centre at Haji Abdul Qayyum Hospital and Sahiwal Teaching Hospital.

Rafique stated that a modern cancer hospital would be established in Sahiwal under the vision of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Azmat Mahmood said the new facility would spare patients the cost and inconvenience of travelling to major cities for treatment.

Punjab has updated its public transport bus distribution plan, reducing the number of vehicles earmarked for Lahore from 248 to 107. This adjustment leaves the city with 141 fewer buses than were originally specified in the PC-I.

The initial proposal allocated 209 twelve-metre buses to Lahore, but the updated plan retains only 107 of these larger vehicles. Original plans also included 39 nine-metre buses for the city.

Across the province, the total bus count rose to 1,115 after an increase of 15 units from the original PC-I figure of 1,100. The revised distribution shifts the balance by increasing twelve-metre buses from 465 to 503 while lowering nine-metre buses from 635 to 612.

Moonbug Entertainment is partnering with NBCUniversal’s DreamWorks to produce CoComelon: The Movie for theatrical release. The plot follows the character JJ as he prepares to start his first day of kindergarten.

More than 200 million YouTube subscribers have followed the CoComelon brand, which has generated over 200 billion views since its first video debuted in September 2006. Netflix added the content to its streaming library in 2020, while the franchise expanded into CoComelon Lane in 2023.

Additional projects under development include the live-action The Melon Patch and CoComelon Playdates with Sanrio Friends. Details regarding a release date in Pakistan have not been shared.
