Punjab cuts Lahore public transport bus allocation by 141 units

Punjab has updated its public transport bus distribution plan, reducing the number of vehicles earmarked for Lahore from 248 to 107. This adjustment leaves the city with 141 fewer buses than were originally specified in the PC-I.

The initial proposal allocated 209 twelve-metre buses to Lahore, but the updated plan retains only 107 of these larger vehicles. Original plans also included 39 nine-metre buses for the city.

Across the province, the total bus count rose to 1,115 after an increase of 15 units from the original PC-I figure of 1,100. The revised distribution shifts the balance by increasing twelve-metre buses from 465 to 503 while lowering nine-metre buses from 635 to 612.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman urges lawmakers to abolish government petroleum levy authority

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman urges lawmakers to abolish government petroleum levy authority

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman called on parliamentary party leaders and lawmakers to pass legislation withdrawing the government's power to determine the petroleum levy. The lawmaker stated that delegating this authority to the executive branch weakens the constitutional role of parliament.

Rehman argued that the petroleum levy currently impacts various economic sectors, including agriculture, food production, transport, and industry. To address rising inflation, he urged all political parties to form a united response and create a joint strategy to remove the levy.

Any revenue gap resulting from a lower petroleum levy could be covered by removing financial irregularities and cutting unnecessary government spending. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rehman warned that the imposition of emergency measures and governor's rule in 12 districts might intensify the province's political crisis.

He further called for a collective effort from all political parties to safeguard the democratic and constitutional order in K-P.
