Punjab government orders safety audits of major public hospitals

A joint steering committee will oversee the audit process to assess the condition of fire protection arrangements and electrical systems. The secretary of Specialised Healthcare will chair the committee, while the secretary of Energy serves as co-chairman.
Beyond identifying hazards, the committee will supervise measures to rectify serious deficiencies found during the inspections. Monitoring the efficient use of energy and electricity conservation measures is another primary responsibility for the group.
The committee is tasked with preparing recommendations to improve energy efficiency and lower electricity expenditures in healthcare facilities. Coordination among the Health Department, Energy Department, and Punjab Energy Efficiency and Conservation Agency (PECA) will be ensured.
A comprehensive progress report on the audits and the rectification of identified flaws will be submitted to the Punjab Chief Secretary.
