Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the Last-Mile Water Supply Project during a special meeting of the Punjab Saaf Pani Authority on 25 October. The project will deliver clean drinking water to new areas in Rajanpur, Chakwal, and Rawalpindi.
Sharif stated that the provision of clean drinking water was a public right and promised that every citizen would be provided with safe drinking water. Officials reviewed the installation of 5,734 water filtration plants across Punjab, which must be completed by 30 June 2027.
Assistant commissioners have been tasked with monitoring the maintenance and operation of these filtration plants. Public committees will be formed under the supervision of assistant commissioners to oversee the plants in local neighbourhoods.
Mobile maintenance units will be established in every tehsil to support the infrastructure. The government plans to extend water supply schemes to additional regions following the completion of work in Chakwal, Rajanpur, and Rawalpindi.
