Pakistan informed a meeting at the United Nations Headquarters in New York that the ongoing conflict in Sudan has no military solution. Usman Jadoon delivered this message during a joint session between the African Union Peace and Security Council and members of the UN Security Council on 23 October.
The tragedy in Sudan has continued for far too long; We must make every effort to end the conflict, Jadoon said. Hostilities first broke out in April 2023 between the Rapid Support Forces militia and the Sudanese Armed Forces.
Fighting has concentrated in the Blue Nile and Kordofan regions. Pakistan rejected any fragmentation of the Sudanese state and condemned atrocities committed by the Rapid Support Forces in El Fasher and El Geneina.
The country called for an immediate cessation of violence, the preservation of state institutions, and the creation of space for an inclusive political process under meaningful African leadership. Islamabad also urged the effective implementation of the existing arms embargo and the removal of external support sustaining the war.
Ultimately, peace must be Sudanese-led and Sudanese-owned, Jadoon stated. The African Union Special Representative visited Khartoum to engage with Sudanese authorities.
