Pakistan has requested that the international community provide consistent support to rebuild Syria and restore its economy. The country's call comes after Bashar Al-Assad was removed from power in late 2024.

Ahmed al-Sharaa has assumed leadership of Syria and pledged to implement major government reforms while ensuring accountability for past atrocities. Ambassador Usman Jadoon welcomed the progress made in engaging with the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Jadoon stated, "Pakistan shares in this optimism." The diplomat also reiterated a demand for Israel to withdraw from all occupied Syrian territory and adhere fully to the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement.

He noted that the Golan Heights remain Syrian territory under international law and Security Council resolutions 338 and 497. Sectarian violence between Bedouin armed groups and the Druze has occurred in Suweida, where more than 14,000 students currently need schooling.

The Assad-era Counter-Terrorism Court has been abolished as part of the transition. Claudio Cordone, Deputy Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Syria, said, "Success will ultimately be measured by tangible improvements in people’s daily lives."

Cordone added that a lasting solution for Suweida necessitates a Syrian-Syrian dialogue. Reports indicate that 49 people are still being held in Israeli custody.
