The film Clayface has premiered in cinemas, marking the first time the city of Gotham appears in the rebooted DC Universe. Actor Aaron Paul appears in a cameo role, portraying Matt's father during one of the character's transformations.
The story features a character named Matt Hagen alongside Corey, who is played by Josh James. Production teams developed approximately 19 different versions of the Clayface monster and managed 65 stages of facial prosthetics at one point.
Practical effects were used for the airplane scene, where a character cuts clay strips between his eyes using five pairs of scissors. A gimbal moved the bathroom in real time during the airplane sequence, while a rig with a large cavity allowed an actor to pull Josh James into his chest during a suffocation scene.
Stunt people performed a fall down the stairs, and a contortionist worked in the nightclub scene which featured in-camera wipes. Directors intended to frame Gotham as a contrast to Coast City and utilized practical lighting throughout the movie.
Practical camera tricks were employed for the nightclub scenes and face-swapping scares, while a practical eyeball was used for close-ups.
