Netflix and Hoichoi announced a partnership on 22 October in Mumbai to distribute series to viewers of Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. The two companies will collaborate on new shows, specifically focusing on original series that adapt selected stories from the Hoichoi library.
Hoichoi Studios, the production arm of the platform, will produce these reworked narratives. Netflix intends to increase its volume of licensed programming from external producers to complement its own original content.
The streaming giant currently serves a global audience of nearly 1,000,000,000 people. Recent international expansions include a deal with Brazil's broadcaster Globo earlier this month and the addition of the full TF1 programming lineup in France.
Launched in 2017, Hoichoi serves as the first venture from the new media division of SVF. Vishnu Mohta, the executive director of SVF, co-founded the platform.
The platform hosts more than 2,000 hours of programming, including over 100 original series, films, shorts, and docuseries. Hoichoi reaches more than 250,000,000 Bengalis worldwide and entered theatrical production in 2023.
