CONI board places FIGC under administration; Malago steps down presidency
The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) executive board voted unanimously to place the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) under extraordinary administration. Giovanni Malago is set to lose his job and return to the federation as a special administrator.
Malago will oversee the daily operations of the FIGC, though this role awaits final ratification from the federation's National Council. Consequently, Malago will step down from the presidency to permit the implementation of this special administration.
The administrator will assume a role designed to guide the federation toward new presidential elections within a three-month timeframe. Legal inquiries previously questioned the validity of the ballot because Malago was not a member of the FIGC when he was elected.
Malago previously won the federation presidency in June, securing over 68% of the vote. Furthermore, Malago will be eligible to stand as a candidate in the election no later than 31 January next year.
