Saudi Arabia shelves NEOM Stadium plans, shifting focus to 2034 World Cup venues

Saudi Arabia is quietly shelving plans to build the NEOM Stadium, according to reports. The NEOM Stadium had previously been billed as an elevated arena within a steel and glass structure called The Line.
NEOM itself was initially presented as a key component of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030. Yasir Al-Rumayyan confirmed in April that The Line was no longer a priority for the region.
Instead, Riyadh is currently working on building or renovating fifteen venues across five cities for the 2034 World Cup. MEED Projects estimates the total value of these ongoing projects at $22.7 billion.
The shelved NEOM stadium alone was projected to cost $2.5 billion, and the planned 46,000-seat facility is now listed as “on hold”.
