The International Cricket Council (ICC) named Shubman Gill the Men's Player of the Month for September 2026. Gill secured the honour over nominees Abhishek Sharma and Sikandar Raza.

The Indian captain accumulated 333 runs during India's first two One Day Internationals against West Indies, leading his side to eight-wicket victories in both games. During the first match on 27 September in Thiruvananthapuram, Gill scored 110 runs from 108 deliveries.

India reached a target of 296 in 41.4 overs to chase down the Indies total of 295/7. In Guwahati, Gill remained unbeaten on 223 runs off 133 balls after Indies posted 405/7 in the second ODI.

He reached his century in just 62 balls, marking the fastest hundred by an Indian captain in ODI history. Gill also achieved a double century in 117 balls, which stands as the fastest such feat in the history of the format.

He and Rohit Sharma, who scored 101 off 75 balls, shared a 255-run opening partnership. This 255-run stand represents India's highest opening partnership on home soil.

India concluded the three-match series with a 2-1 win over Indies. This marks Gill's fifth ICC Men's Player of the Month award, following previous wins in January 2023, September 2023, February 2025 and July 2025.

Sanju Samson was the most recent Indian man to receive the award in March 2026. Indian men have received this recognition 17 times across 11 different players.

"It feels fantastic to win my fifth ICC Player of the Month award, and I am grateful to the panel for this honour." "It was immensely satisfying to score those runs and even more special to be part of successful run chases in front of our home fans, whose support always gives us an extra boost."
