Stephen Fleming has been named the head coach of the England Test team. The new appointment will lead his first series in South Africa in December.
Fleming will also assist in the development of English coaches and occasionally invite former England players and county coaches into the team structure. James Foster and Richard Dawson have joined the backroom team to support the new head coach.
The coach believes that a national representative should primarily lead the national team. Earlier this year, Marcus Trescothick served as the interim head of the Test side.
Fleming spent time visiting several counties in September and will continue to watch county cricket during part of next summer. The squad for the upcoming South Africa tour is scheduled to be announced in the first week of November.
Spin bowling is expected to be a significant factor during the two-Test tour of Bangladesh in February. Fleming noted, "I acknowledge there's a raft of spinners just below that, that at times are putting their hand up."
Shoaib Bashir was recently identified as the sole specialist red-ball spinner on the list of fully centrally contracted players. Mason Crane and Liam Patterson-White have both received development deals.
Brendon McCullum will continue in his role as the white-ball coach. Jonathan Trott is set to begin a period in charge of the England Lions.
Marcus North currently serves as the selector for England. Leah Poulton is scheduled to become the managing director of England women in September.
Lisa Keightley held the position of England women's head coach from 2020 to 2023.
