Zheng Qinwen withdrew from the Wuhan Open on 12 October, citing a right shoulder injury and fatigue. "I'm very sorry to share that I will be withdrawing from this year's Wuhan Open," Qinwen said.

The Chinese player had recently secured her first WTA 1000-level triumph in Beijing on 11 October after defeating Mirra Andreeva 7-5, 6-4. Ranked world number four, Zheng is currently positioned among the top 25 players globally.

Her recent form follows a period of recovery after undergoing elbow surgery last year, which caused her to miss nearly 8 months of competition. During this season, the athlete dropped as low as 160 in the rankings but managed to reach the US Open quarter-finals.

Other notable absences from the tournament include Elena Rybakina, Coco Gauff, and Linda Noskova. Mirra Andreeva also withdrew from the event due to a schedule change, while she is set to appear at the WTA Finals in Indian Wells next month.

The Wuhan Open is scheduled to conclude on 18 October.
