Tens of thousands join French rallies to support protesting high school students
Tens of thousands of people joined rallies across France on Tuesday to support protesting high school students. The interior ministry reported that some 161,500 people turned out for the demonstrations.
This figure is more than double the 71,500 participants who attended the previous nationwide protests on Thursday last week. Unions assisting with the organisation of Tuesday's events estimated a countrywide turnout of 480,000 people.
The movement poses a major challenge to President Emmanuel Macron as his term in office winds down.
