Sarina Wiegman signed a two-year contract extension with the Football Association on 19 October 2026. The agreement keeps Wiegman in charge of the England women's team until the conclusion of the 2029 women's European Championship.
The 56-year-old manager first reached an extension agreement in January 2024. Wiegman took over the national side in September 2021 and has since guided the team to a 2022 European Championship title.
Under her leadership, England also won the 2025 European Championship and reached its first World Cup final in 2023. The team lost that 2023 World Cup final to Spain in Australia.
Wiegman has reached five successive major tournament finals, having previously won the Euro 2017 with the Netherlands. The new contract includes the 2027 Nations League, which serves as a qualifying tournament for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
England is scheduled to face Ukraine in a two-legged play-off during November and December to secure a spot in the tournament in Brazil. Wiegman said, "I am so happy to be able to carry on with this squad and cannot think of a better job in football."
The manager added, "Of course, anyone who knows me will understand that my main concern right now is absolutely the World Cup, and helping this squad realise their potential in the years to come." She further noted, "We have an important job to do to confirm our place in Brazil, and hopefully we can do that and give the country another special summer to remember next year."
