IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok highlight global economic risks
The International Monetary Fund and World Bank held their annual meetings in Bangkok this week. Kristalina Georgieva addressed a press conference on 17 October to discuss the current global financial landscape.
The meetings were defined by a mix of optimism and worry regarding the international economy. Georgieva noted that IMF members discussed cracks in economic resilience as fiscal and energy buffers are being depleted.
She urged regulators and supervisors to remain alert to risks from fraud, cyberattacks, and non-bank institutions. In Bangkok, the Finance Minister interacted with World Bank President Ajay Banga.
