IMF members urge increased support for nations facing short-term financing hurdles
IMF member countries called for increased support to nations experiencing short-term financing challenges during a meeting in Bangkok. Negative spillovers from ongoing wars and high energy prices are the primary drivers of these financial difficulties.
The International Monetary and Financial Committee stated that economic risks remain tilted to the downside. Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan warned that escalating conflicts and trade tensions could further disrupt critical trade routes, exacerbate commodity price pressures, including in refined energy products, and worsen energy and food security.
