The Pakistan Army killed several Afghan Taliban personnel and destroyed multiple positions in the Upper Kurram sector following unprovoked firing from the Afghan side. Artillery fire from Pakistani forces targeted the Topsar post and the Shipola base camp, resulting in the total destruction of the latter.

Following the military response, Taliban personnel abandoned a border post as the exchange of fire continued across the frontier. Heavy weapons were deployed by the Pakistan Army to counter another instance of unprovoked firing in the Kurram sector.

Reports indicate the Afghan Taliban regime was providing assistance to militants, despite the Taliban government's rejection of claims that it allows its territory to be used for attacks against Pakistan. Terrorism originating from Afghan soil claimed 1,327 Pakistani lives and injured 2,484 others during 2026.

United Nations assessments have documented the presence of the Islamic State-Khorasan, al Qaeda, and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement in Afghanistan.
