Pakistan Railways to transfer Karakoram Express to private operator Prime Rail

Pakistan Railways will transfer the Karakoram Express to the private firm Prime Rail on 30 October 2026. The train currently runs between the cities of Lahore and Karachi.
Until 29 October 2026, the state-owned railway will continue to handle all ticket bookings for the service. Prime Rail is set to assume responsibility for ticket sales and other associated operations starting 30 October 2026.
The private company has already been granted authorisation to begin its booking process for the Karakoram Express. Management of the Raabta app has been directed to start accepting advance bookings for the train.
Pakistan Railways intends to move mail and express train operations to the private sector in a phased manner.
