Ahad Cheema directed a feasibility study concerning rice planters following a meeting to review their introduction in Punjab and Sindh. The Prime Minister's Coordinator on Food, Ahmad Umair, along with Secretary Food Amer Ali Ahmad, Secretary Industries, and other senior officials attended the session.
Cheema instructed the Secretary Food to prepare the necessary feasibility study. This assessment must evaluate the economic viability, cost-effectiveness, and the potential effect on rice exports.
Furthermore, Cheema stated that the federal government would commit investment if the study presented a viable case. The study should also suggest a cost-sharing model involving the federal government, provincial governments, and farmers.
Consulting provincial governments on identifying suitable farmers and distributing the planters was another directive from Cheema. Cheema called for consultations with REAP, EDB, provincial stakeholders, and private companies.
Moreover, the Prime Minister's Coordinator on Food, Umair, noted that a technology-transfer program covering farmer training, after-sales service, and technical support is required.
