A measles outbreak has struck the state’s Amish community, with the state reporting a fifth measles-associated death among 943 confirmed cases across 39 counties. Lancaster county recorded the highest number of cases, reaching 381 instances.

Chester county registered the third-highest case count, totalling 83 cases, according to Jeanne Franklin. Franklin stated that the disease might spread to non-Plain Amish community members.

She added that the Amish people are making decisions based on their neighbours being impacted, not on myths. Advantageously, Chester county possesses its own health department.

Dr Richard Lorraine confirmed that Montgomery county is concentrating its efforts on immunization. Furthermore, Montgomery county is ensuring that every resident can receive a vaccine regardless of their insurance status.

Last year, Delaware county’s largest healthcare system, Crozer Health, collapsed due to bankruptcy. Lora Werner noted that the newly established local health department in Delaware county has proven to be a gamechanger.
