Daniil Medvedev defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets to reach the Shanghai Masters quarter-finals on 14 October. The world number six won the match with a score of 6-4, 7-5.
Medvedev did not face a single break point throughout the contest. The 30-year-old fifth seed stated, "I felt like I was playing very well today," and noted that he applied significant pressure during the first set.
Medvedev described the second set as a "very tight one" but said he was pleased to find rhythm and produce quality returns. This victory marks Medvedev's 11th win in a head-to-head record against Tsitsipas, who has faced the Russian 16 times in the singles draw on Tour.
Tommy Paul, ranked 39th, advanced after beating Zizou Bergs 7-6 (7/5), 6-4. Paul, who upset second-seeded Carlos Alcaraz in the previous round, said, "I know sometimes it's hard to back up a big win."
Rafael Jodar secured his quarter-final spot against Casper Ruud after defeating Botic van de Zandschulp 6-7 (4/7), 6-4, 6-2. Jodar received a code violation in the second set for swearing at a ball boy in Spanish.
Ruud moved forward because fourth-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime retired while trailing 2-5 in the first set. Auger-Aliassime, who wore white strapping on his left knee, required a medical timeout after the fifth game before withdrawing.
Ruud observed that Auger-Aliassime appeared to stumble with a wrong step and seemed to twist his knee, stating, "From that moment it seemed like he was in a lot of pain."
