St. Louis City secured the US Open Cup by defeating Columbus Crew in a penalty shoot-out at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field. The match ended in a 0-0 draw after extra time, leading to a 5-3 victory for St. Louis in the shoot-out.

Daniel Edelman scored the decisive spot-kick to eliminate Columbus during the 2024 MLS postseason. Ben Lundt saved the opening penalty taken by Santiago Rodriguez for Columbus.

Edelman said, "Thankfully I've been there before and it's all about the process when you step up." The midfielder added, "You just have to believe, have a good mindset and focus on how you strike the ball, which is exactly what I did."

This victory represents the first trophy in the history of the club since it joined the MLS as an expansion team in 2019. Edelman noted, "It's the first trophy for me and a lot of guys and for the city."

He further stated, "For us as a team it's phenomenal to have this night and have this trophy." The US Open Cup dates back to its first competition in 1913-1914.
