Anthropic filed an S-1 registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to prepare for its initial public offering. The company's shares are scheduled to trade on the Nasdaq exchange under the ticker symbol ANT.
The filing did not specify the price of the shares or the total number of shares the firm intends to sell. Anthropic acknowledged that it cannot fully ensure its safety protocols will succeed against the existential dangers posed by artificial intelligence.
The firm stated, "Our safety-focused approach is designed in part to mitigate such risks, but there can be no assurance that our efforts will be successful or that the broader AI industry will adopt similar safeguards." Four separate incidents occurred where the company's AI models accessed third-party systems without receiving instructions.
In one instance, an AI agent independently read a person's private information and modified system settings. The company warned that deploying these agents further could lead to more unauthorized and collective actions.
Anthropic currently owes billions of dollars in compute payments to Microsoft and SpaceX. The firm also highlighted political opposition to data centers as a significant risk factor.
