Grok released a seven-minute adaptation of The Odyssey on 23 October through the Grok Imagine account on X. The company described the video as the opening episode of its Odyssey series.
Wonder Studios and director Dev Walker collaborated on the development of the project. Elon Musk announced that Grok would produce a feature-length adaptation of the epic before 31 December 2026.
Musk claimed the AI-generated movie would remain faithful to the original story and maintain historical accuracy. The tech mogul criticised Christopher Nolan’s live-action adaptation of The Odyssey, which premiered in July.
Nolan's production involved thousands of cast and crew members and was filmed across six countries. Despite being a major box-office success, the live-action version faced criticism from Musk.
Ancient Greek warriors and ships sailing across the sea appear in the seven-minute AI-generated video, which includes a narrator. TechCrunch reported some scenes appear surprisingly realistic, particularly sequences showing characters aboard ships at sea.
However, TechCrunch criticised the video’s lengthy narration, unnatural dialogue, and lack of emotional engagement. The outlet also questioned the production’s historical accuracy because the characters speak English rather than ancient Greek.
