Ireland beats Israel 3-0 in Nations League clash at Nagyerdei Stadion
Ireland defeated Israel 3-0 during a Nations League fixture held at Nagyerdei Stadion, Hungary. Irish players wore black armbands during the match.
The teams avoided customary pre-match handshakes and did not exchange pennants. Irish players bowed their heads when the Israeli national anthem played.
Troy Parrott scored the opening goal in the fourteenth minute. Jack Moylan scored the third goal twenty-five minutes into the game.
Gavin Buzunu pulled out of the match proceedings. Icelander Hallgrimsson stated that the players' actions raised awareness worldwide.
The Irish federation did not reserve any tickets for attending fans. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar accused Ireland of being “on the wrong side of history”.
Saar also referenced the Irish team of 1939 giving the Nazi salute. Mol Michael stated that canceling the Irish audience due to politics was a stupid move.
Separately, Dublin formally recognised a Palestinian state.
