Pakistani students can apply for a PhD studentship at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. The research project, which accepts applications from students globally, centres on additively manufactured architected metamaterials for high-temperature uses.
Successful candidates can expect a stipend of approximately £20,000 annually. This funding covers the stipend and only the portion of tuition equivalent to the UK home fee, not the entire overseas tuition fee.
Specifically, the PhD work involves developing lightweight architected nickel-based superalloys capable of functioning in hot conditions. The core research goal addresses the issue of high density in nickel superalloys by designing, building, and testing ultra-lightweight hollow architected alloys.
Potential uses for this investigation span aerospace, space exploration, and transport sectors. The University does not mandate that applicants possess prior experience in modelling or experimentation for this specific project.
However, international students must satisfy the University of Birmingham’s English language criteria, requiring an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no single component falling below 5.5. Interested applicants should first make contact with the project supervisor, Dr Yuanbo (Tony) Tang.
