LUMS Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education (SOE), alongside the Ali Institute of Education, hosted a seminar titled “Recognizing and Supporting Students’ Mental Health: Trauma-informed Approaches as a Whole-School Framework” on an unspecified date. The event took place at the Ali Institute of Education.

This seminar represents the conclusion of a year-long initiative by the LUMS School of Education, which partnered with the Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust (SNPET) to establish a whole-school trauma-informed system. Dr. Tayyaba Tamim, Dean, SOE, stated that students carry invisible scars which they bring into the classroom.

Ms. Fizza Suhail, faculty member at SOE and subject lead for the project, noted that the classroom must accommodate both regulated students ready to learn and those who are overwhelmed, dysregulated, and unable to focus. Furthermore, Ms. Fizza Suhail, faculty member at SOE and subject lead for the project, explained that the framework is “inclusive of all students: both neurotypical and neurodivergent students, children facing adversity or those who live with a disability and also for children whose nervous systems are ready and primed to learn.”

Beena Raza, Board Member, SNPET, asserted that if the approach succeeds in Sanjan Nagar, it can be implemented in any other school. Separately, the LUMS School of Education is launching its new BSc (Hons) in Educational Psychology this year.
