Pakistan orders reassessment of 52 drug pricing proposals including influenza vaccines

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) must re-evaluate 52 proposals for drug price adjustments, including a planned increase for influenza vaccines. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif assigned Dr Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Climate Change, to oversee the review of these pricing requests.
Inconsistencies regarding reference costs and pricing calculations were identified during the examination of the submissions. Forty-two of the 52 proposals involve medications already sold in Pakistan that are being launched in different strengths.
The review team discovered that the landed cost for seasonal influenza vaccines was significantly lower than the retail prices being proposed. Two multinational companies have failed to bring their influenza vaccines to the Pakistani market this season because of ongoing disputes over price approvals.
Drap has been instructed to provide updated recommendations based on established criteria for final approval by the federal cabinet.
