Fed policymakers signal caution, suggesting more rate increases remain possible
Federal Reserve policymakers gained further reason to delay any immediate increases to interest rates, according to recent reports. US employers added 29,000 jobs during the last month, according to data released.
The unemployment rate stood at 4.2 percent for September, marking an increase from the previous 4.1 percent figure. Furthermore, the Fed had previously increased short-term borrowing costs by a quarter of a percentage point last month.
Policymakers indicated they are likely to implement at least one further rate increase before the year concludes. The unemployment rate ticked up to 4.2 percent, rising from 4.1 percent, according to another source.
Interest-rate futures contracts currently price in a less than one-in-five probability of a rate hike occurring at the Fed’s October meeting.
