Ghana passes law restricting preaching and hawking on moving vehicles

Ghana passed a new law targeting preaching and hawking while vehicles are moving. Anyone found preaching in public service vehicles now faces up to eight months in prison, a fine up to $52, or both penalties.
Parliament passed this new regulation back in May. Boateng Bismark James has been preaching on buses leaving Neoplan station since 2023.
Regarding the restrictions, James stated that he preaches on commercial vehicles because not everyone can attend church on Sunday. The preacher also claimed that the government ought to permit preachers to preach on buses and disembark when the bus leaves Accra.
Conversely, Chery Lokko stated that she prefers to travel in peace because preaching causes a nuisance. Bernice Nartey suggested that pastors should be permitted to preach, but only after obtaining the passengers' consent.
Rev Enoch Paul Hayes asserted that the new rules do not infringe upon religious freedom.
