Zvyagintsev's film Minotaur addresses Putin's war in Ukraine, winning Cannes Grand Prix

Andrey Zvyagintsev's film, "Minotaur," tackles Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine, having secured the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival this year. The film is also slated to be an entry for the 2027 Oscar for best international film.
Zvyagintsev, who is 62 years old, currently resides in France. He departed Russia in 2021.
Zvyagintsev stated that a director born in and speaking only Russian 'could not talk about what has become the main, if not the most important, event of recent years.' Furthermore, Zvyagintsev asserted that art concerns subtleties, whereas propaganda functions as a crude instrument.
Russia designated Zvyagintsev a “foreign agent” in August. Originally, Zvyagintsev intended to remake Claude Chabrol’s 1969 thriller titled “La Femme Infidele” (“The Unfaithful Wife”).
French cinemas will see the premiere of "Minotaur" on 14 October.
