WTA cuts required tournaments for top players in 2027 season

The WTA confirmed it will reduce the number of required tournaments for top-ranked players in 2027. For the 2027 season, the WTA mandates that players ranked in the top 50 must compete in four WTA 500 tournaments.
Furthermore, the WTA allows players to substitute points earned from WTA 1000 events with points from WTA 500 or WTA 250 tournaments. Separately, the ATP announced a reduction in mandatory 500-level tournaments for the top 30 players, decreasing the requirement from five to four starting this season.
Additionally, the WTA confirmed that the prize money for 'combined' WTA 1000 tournaments will now align with the corresponding men's ATP events.
