Pakistan Telecommunication Authority warns public against rising online scams

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a warning to the public regarding online scams during Cybersecurity Awareness Week 2026. Cybercriminals employ fraudulent calls, messages, and links to obtain personal information and infiltrate user accounts.
Fraudsters may pose as representatives from government departments, companies, or banks while offering misleading messages and fake prizes. Users are urged by the PTA to avoid clicking on suspicious links, responding to unverified calls, or sharing passwords.
The authority advised people to never disclose account passwords, personal identification numbers (PINs), or one-time passwords (OTPs). To improve security, the PTA recommended that individuals enable two-factor authentication and keep their applications and devices updated.
Limiting the amount of personal information shared on online platforms is another measure suggested by the regulator.
