Elon Musk settles two lawsuits over $1 million daily voter giveaway

Elon Musk settled two lawsuits in Austin, Texas, regarding a pledge to award $1 million daily to a randomly selected registered voter in a 2024 swing state. Two residents of Arizona filed the legal actions, alleging that Musk's lottery was a fraud.
The plaintiffs argued that Musk falsely stated the prizes would be distributed randomly. Philadelphia’s District Attorney also sued to halt the giveaway, claiming Musk was operating an illegal lottery.
Chris Gober, a representative for Musk’s America PAC, stated, "The $1 million recipients are not chosen by chance … We know exactly who will be announced as the $1 million recipient today and tomorrow." Accusations also surfaced that Musk and America PAC used the giveaway as a tactic to gather user information.
The petition for the giveaway contained no restrictions on how America PAC could use or sell the personal data it collected.
