Anthropic to commit 5% of shares to public benefit fund

Anthropic will dedicate 5% of its shares to a public benefit fund as it prepares for a potential stock market listing. The company could reach a valuation exceeding $1 trillion upon entering the public market.
The proposed fund aims to provide support for nonprofit organisations and initiatives addressing the impact of artificial intelligence on the job market. Anthropic stated that the firm believes AI could pose "catastrophic or existential risks to humanity".
The board of directors maintains the discretion to award an additional 2% of the firm's shares to the Public Benefit Fund. None of the shares held by the fund will be used for political donations or lobbying activities in the United States or abroad.
Elon Musk said, "I recommend giving the shares directly to the public," and added, "This is what I will be doing".
