Pakistan suspends trade at Taftan and Gabd-Rimdan border crossings with Iran

Pakistan suspended trade with Iran through the Taftan and Gabd-Rimdan border crossings. The Ministry of Commerce issued a memorandum on 16 October withdrawing a previous order.
Shahid Rind stated the temporary closure intends to address security concerns, stop smuggling, and make the border system more effective. Esmail Baqaei claimed the closure is temporary and attributed the move to technical issues.
The Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry told its members to stop placing new import and export orders with Iran. Passenger traffic through the Rimdan-Gabd crossing is still running despite the trade suspension.
Over 4,000 tonnes of LPG are imported through the Gabd-Rimdan route every day. Pakistan Customs rejected claims of a disruption in LPG imports in June.
An Iranian delegation visited Islamabad in August for the 10th session of the Pak-Iran Joint Trade Committee. Pakistan and Iran agreed to raise bilateral trade to $10 billion.
