Pakistan Drug Regulatory Authority places eight health product categories under stricter oversight

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) issued Notification No. S.R.O. 1688(I)/2026 on 6 October to bring eight categories of health products under tighter regulatory control. Vitamins, dietary supplements, medicated soaps, shampoos, and specialized infant milk are included in the new requirements.
Manufacturers and marketers must now obtain registration, approval, and quality-control clearances before selling these items in Pakistan. By recognizing specific health and over-the-counter products as therapeutic goods, the authority intends to ensure items with medicinal claims adhere to prescribed safety standards.
Increased scrutiny is expected to improve the monitoring of product composition, labelling, manufacturing processes, and quality standards. This initiative might assist in stopping the marketing of substandard or counterfeit products sold as antiseptic or medicinal treatments.
Pharmacists and healthcare professionals have expressed appreciation for the issuance of the notification.
