Pakistan ranks among 10 nations facing largest global food crises
Pakistan is one of 10 countries currently suffering from the most severe food crises globally, according to a report released on 16 October. Action Against Hunger identified Nigeria, Congo, Sudan, Yemen, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Sudan, and Syria as the nations facing the largest food emergencies.
Approximately 10.6 million people in Pakistan will require humanitarian assistance in 2026. A total of 177 million people reside in the 10 countries where hunger is most concentrated.
Acute hunger has doubled over the last decade, impacting 266 million people across 47 countries. Poverty in Pakistan rose from 21.9pc in 2018-19 to 28.9pc in 2024-25.
Localised insecurity in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to disrupt livelihoods for residents. The lean season from December 2025 to March 2026 is likely to worsen food insecurity in some areas.
