Steve Smith suffers head injury as Australia secures first test win

Australian batsman Steve Smith was struck on the head by a bouncer from Anrich Nortje during the second-last day of the first test at Kingsmead in Durban. Smith scored 27 runs before the incident occurred.
Australia won the match by 214 runs, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. The 37-year-old veteran is currently 28 runs away from reaching 11,000 test runs.
The batsman explained that his performance on the following day was affected by anxiety over past injuries, though he passed all medical tests and recovered quickly. This injury follows a history of head trauma for Smith, including a bouncer from Jofra Archer at Lord's in 2019 and a concussion during a 2020 practice session in England.
Previous issues included vertigo and sickness during a 2020 ODI in Sydney and a vestibular problem that ruled him out of a test in Adelaide.
