Astronomers gain mini-observatory space at village hall site

Amateur astronomers received permission to establish a mini-observatory at a village hall site. Members of the Shropshire Astronomical Society plan to move an unused dome and telescope from the Tern Hill army base near Market Drayton.
The group has operated from Rodington Village Hall, near Shrewsbury, for a quarter of a century. Stephen Szwajkun stated that the facility 'will be a first public astronomical observatory in the area and provide inspiration for the diverse residents of Telford and Wrekin as well as the wider area.'
Philip Osman confirmed that an agreement was reached to purchase the mini observatory in May. The domed structure measures just under 2.7 metres in height.
Telford and Wrekin planners noted that the curved gloss white fibreglass dome would enhance the site's visual appeal.
