Saudi and Iranian foreign ministers discuss regional de-escalation efforts
Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister held a discussion with his Iranian counterpart to address the latest regional escalation and work toward de-escalating tensions. This communication represents the first publicly reported contact between the two nations since Houthi rebels intensified strikes against Saudi Arabia.
Iran’s foreign minister stated that Tehran is ready to provide any assistance to facilitate dialogue between Saudi Arabia and Yemen. During the past week, Houthi forces struck Saudi Arabia several times, including an attack on Riyadh’s international airport on 11 October.
The strike on the airport killed 13 people and injured more than 300 others. Authorities confirmed the attack was the deadliest in Saudi Arabia in over 10 years.
